CaBr2

Calcium Bromide is primarily used in oil drilling as a key component of high-density water-based drilling fluids and completion fluids. Its high solubility (up to approximately 70% at room temperature) allows for a significant increase in solution density to over 1.7 g/cm³, while maintaining a low crystallization temperature and good viscosity stability. This property effectively balances high formation pressure, preventing blowouts, and due to its good compatibility with formation water, it reduces damage to the reservoir and inhibits clay swelling. Furthermore, calcium bromide solutions have relatively low corrosivity to pipe materials and maintain stable performance at high temperatures. It is often used in combination with zinc bromide to optimize density and cost, and is widely applied in drilling and completion operations for deep wells, high-pressure wells, and sensitive reservoirs.
